Samenvatting

Why are some substances addictive and others not? Which medications can help with conditions like anxiety disorders and ADHD? Why is it so difficult to quit smoking? This book provides answers to these and many other questions.

Psychopharmacology provides an overview of how various substances influence human behavior. Its basic premise is that the primary mechanism influencing behavior is the effect of a substance in the human brain. This complex subject is explained clearly. The first part of the book presents the general principles of psychopharmacology. Later chapters address the more specific classes of psychopharmacological drugs: pharmaceuticals and stimulants.

This edition has been completely revised and updated.

Psychopharmacology is written for psychology students in higher education.

Leon Kenemans is Professor of Human Psychopharmacology and Biopsychology at Utrecht University. He lectures on the relationship between the brain and behavior, and on psychopharmacology in particular. His research focuses on attention, affect and action control, particularly their neurobiological, pharmacological and pathological aspects.
