Its basic premise is that the primary mechanism influencing behavior is the effect of a substance in the human brain. This complex subject is explained clearly. The first part of the book presents the general principles of psychopharmacology. Later chapters address the more specific classes of psychopharmacological drugs: pharmaceuticals and stimulants.

Leon Kenemans is Professor of Human Psychopharmacology and Biopsychology at Utrecht University. He lectures on the relationship between the brain and behavior, and on psychopharmacology in particular. His research focuses on attention, affect and action control, particularly their neurobiological, pharmacological and pathological aspects.
