This volume offers an extended original series of essays in the field of financial history, assembled from lectures, articles for Festschriften and symposia, commissioned articles, and a few papers for the normal run of periodicals, including one or two obscure ones. They form a complement to the author’s previous work Financial History of Western Europe (1984).
