Many ofthemhavedevelopedwithoutmuchvalidationandhavebeeninuseformany years, copied from one tissue bank to another. There are some good articles on somescienti?caspectsoftissuebankingpractices,buttheyareinrelativelyoldand insomewhatobscurejournals. Thisbookisintendedto?llthisgapbygettinga seriesofeminentexpertstoeachwriteachapterortwoonuptodatetissuebanking practices. Moreoverinthemodernworldoftissuebanking,safetyandqualityoftissues havetakenanincreasinglyimportantrole. Infacttheseactivitiesformthebasisof manylicensureactivitiesthatrelatetotissueestablishments. Anattempthasbeen madetocovertheseaspectsaswell. Althoughthelegislationcoversalltypesofcells,includingstemcells,theyhave beendeliberatelyomitted. Thetargetaudiencesforstemcellsaredifferentandthe setupisalsogenerallyquitedifferentunlikecordblood,whichisverysimilarto tissuesandthereforeincluded.
