Macro and Micro Perspectives on Written Scots in Correspondence during the Union of the Parliaments Debates
Samenvatting
This book examines how written Scots indexed political affiliations in the correspondence of Scottish politicians debating the Union of the Parliaments of 1707. Combining statistical modelling, micro-social analysis and the three «waves» of sociolinguistic research, their use of Scots is explored across time, political factors and stylistic goals.
