Diversity and Empires

• This book explores how European colonial empires addressed the questions of how to manage diversity from both terrestrial and maritime colonies such as the West Indies, Africa, India, the Caribbean and North and South America providing students with a range of case studies showing different and similar approaches to diversity in the early modern world.

• Of interest to students and scholars interested in the history of colonial Empires, global history. Examines how race, diversity and imperial projects were both contentious and mutually constitutive by examining both the global and the micro level, and between longue-durée and historically specific analyses, with diversity as a guiding concept, this book shed light on the interconnectedness between empires’ political and economic practices on the one hand, and the social realities and ramifications on the other.
