Engaging Families in Higher Education

•"Voices from the Field” provide diverse perspectives on each of the chapter topics while also featuring examples of specific programs or services representative of the recommendations discussed throughout the book.
•Covers a combination of research, best practices, practical advice, key collaborations to seek, and ways to make parent and family programming accessible for first generation families and other underrepresented populations who may often feel left out of “traditional” parent and family programming.
•The book is written in an “advice from the experts” style, providing accessible information on the evolution of work with families in the college environment. Engaging content in each chapter will include “Tough Talks” components helping college staff support families in difficult dialogues with students on topics such as alcohol, sexual identity, mental illness, religion, homesickness, and academic difficulties.
