Nets of Awareness

This critical study uses the writings of the distinguished Urdu poets Azad and Hali to demonstrate how the British attempted to devalue Indo-Muslim culture following the Mutiny of 1857. It examines how the metaphysical, sexually-ambiguous style of these Urdu poets was derided by the British.
