Violence in the Heights

• This study describes changing conditions in White inner-city Pittsburgh neighborhoods as violence and opioid addiction increase and explores why residents choose to remain and adapt, challenging the perception that violence is something that occurs in communities of color.
• Many universities as well as civic and faith-based groups are adding new programming on racial justice in the face of the current global crisis, and this book fills a void in the literature while telling a compelling human story.
• Ahlin takes a unique approach, using a primary data collection, and focusing on understudied aspects of urban violence like White violence and crime, its effects on adults as well as children and youth, and smaller cities which make up the majority of the US urban landscape.
